All About Friends

In the late 1970's and early 1980's, a small group of people became very involved with Oxbow Park. These folks shared a common love of the outdoors and nature, and took advantage of all that this relatively new county park had to offer. Almost immediately, these pioneers had a vision for how they could influence, support and provide services for the park.

In 1982, after many long meetings and discussions, they founded the organization known today as the "Friends of Oxbow”. One of their first tasks was to incorporate Friends as a nonprofit organization with the state, create articles of incorporation (later becoming our by-laws), and conduct monthly meetings. Early in the development of Friends these founders put in place a board of directors, Friends strategy, and membership. Over the years these key elements have raised monies, provided volunteers, and implemented the Friends mission.
